Gender Equity Statement.

The Beauty Guru is committed to equity of opportunity and we value and respect the diversity of all our clients.

We know there can be differences between someone’s assigned sex at birth, their gender identity, and/or their gender expression, including individuals who identify outside of the gender binary.

We have a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination, victimisation or harassment on the basis of a person’s gender identity. We will also seek to provide a supportive environment for people who are considering, undergoing or who have undergone transition, as provided for under the Equality Act 2010.

Transgender is an umbrella term and there are many different identities that fall under it, including trans men, trans women, intersex people, people who are genderfluid or agender, people who cross-dress, and non-binary people.

A non-binary person is somebody whose gender identity does not fit into the gender binary of male or female. A non-binary person may consider themselves to be neither male nor female, or they may consider themselves to be both. A person who is non-binary may sometimes identity as more masc, more femme, or a blend of the two. A non-binary person may use gender-neutral pronouns such as They/Them, Ze/Zir, Xie/Xer or others, however, not all non-binary people use gender-neutral pronouns. Being non-binary is not related to a person’s sexual orientation.

A genderfluid person is someone whose gender varies over time. This can be occasionally, every month, week, or day, to even every few moments a day depending on the individual. Sometimes it is consistent and sometimes it is not. A genderfluid person may identify as male, female, gender-neutral, non-binary, or a combination of identities at any one time. Being genderfluid is not related to a person’s sexual orientation.

An intersex person is someone born with a wide range of natural variations in primary and secondary sex characteristics that do not fit the typical definition of male or female. An intersex person might also identify as female, male, or another gender identity such as non-binary or agender. Being intersex is not related to a person’s sexual orientation.

People have the right to self-identify in regards to their gender and may feel that terms such as pan-gender, poly-gender, third gender and genderqueer are more reflective of their gender identity.

Through our related policies and procedures, The Beauty Guru team will strive to support all transgender, non-binary and gender diverse people and we will do all we can to ensure that we have the right knowledge, training and insight to accommodate them. We will seek to ensure that explicitly gendered language, pronouns and terms of address are not used when welcoming customers. We will respect and uphold every person’s gender identity by using the correct language.

The Beauty Guru will treat anybody’s gender identity with dignity and respect. Although “gender reassignment” is one of the nine protected characteristics as provided for under the Equality Act 2010, we aim to protect, respect and uphold every individual’s gender identity alongside people undergoing gender affirming treatment.

As part of our stance, we commit to protect and shield transgender clients from any harassment, discrimination and victimisation relating to their gender identity. This includes people who do not live full-time in their self-identified gender and intersex people.
