What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a versatile and proven permanent method for removing unwanted hair. This technique uses a fine probe to target each hair follicle or blemish with an electric current, providing highly effective results suitable for all skin and hair. We use the Apilus system to ensure faster, more comfortable results.
Electrolysis.
What can Electrolysis treat?
Unwanted Hair: Whether it’s on your face, nipples, underarms, or groin crease - electrolysis can remove hair, permanently.
Unlike laser, which targets pigment, electrolysis treats each individual hair follicle directly. A fine sterile probe is inserted into the follicle and a controlled electrical current destroys the cells responsible for hair growth. The treated hair is then removed without resistance.
Because every follicle is treated individually, electrolysis is effective on:
All hair colours including blonde, red, grey and white
All skin tones
All body areas
Hormonal and treatment-resistant hair
This makes electrolysis the gold standard for permanent hair removal.
When electrolysis is the correct option
Electrolysis is recommended when:Hair is too light for laser
Hair growth is hormonal or unpredictable
You are treating smaller or detailed areas
Permanent clearance is required rather than long-term reduction
What to Expect During Your First Session
Consultation: We'll start by sending a consultation form over email for you to fill out before you come. During the face the face appointment we will assess your hair removal concerns to ensure electrolysis is the right fit for you.
Patch Test: A taster session and patch test will be performed so you can try out the treatment and feel the sensation. We can assess how your skin responds and go through pre and post care with you.
Treatment: The actual treatment involves a tiny probe and a mild current. Most clients find it relatively painless, but you might feel a slight tingling sensation.
Aftercare Advice: We provide full instructions on how to care for your skin post-treatment to keep it hydrated and protected.

Electrolysis is often required as part of gender-affirming care and pre-surgical preparation.
We can advise on which treatment pathway is right for your hair and can also offer a blend of laser and electrolysis.
We work with clients at every stage of their journey and provide structured treatment plans that may include:
Hair mapping and growth pattern assessment

FAQs
Here are the answers to the most common concerns we are asked about Electrolysis.
What machine do you use?
We use the Apilus Senior 3g machine, which is significantly faster and less painful that traditional machines.
What does electrolysis feels like? Is it painful?
Sensation varies depending on the area, depth of the follicle and hair type. It is usually described as a brief heat or sharp sensation that passes quickly.
We work methodically and communicate throughout your appointment so you always feel informed and in control.
How long does it take?
Treatment times vary, but each session usually lasts 15-60 minutes. During your consultation process we will discuss how long your appointments will be and form a treatment plan.
Are there any side effects?
Some redness or swelling is normal and should subside within a few hours. If you experience any other side effects, or are worried about anything, please do reach out.
How many sessions will I need?
For hair removal, the number of sessions depends on the area being treated and individual hair growth cycles.
Can it treat all hair colours?
Yes, electrolysis works on any hair colour, including blonde, red, and grey.
Can electrolysis treat all skin tones?
Yes, electrolysis can treat all skin tones including black skin.
Is electrolysis safe?
Absolutely! When performed by a trained professional, it is very safe. We use sterile, single-use probes and follow strict hygiene protocols. We have a local council licence to perform the treatment.
Aftercare guidance is provided to support healing, reduce inflammation and protect the skin barrier between sessions.
What will results look like? How soon will I see results?
Electrolysis is permanent, but it requires commitment.
You can expect:
Progressive thinning and clearance over time
Reduced density with each growth cycle treated
Long-term permanent removal when the treatment plan is followed
Hair growth occurs in cycles, which means regular appointments are essential in the early stages.
What should I avoid after treatment?
For the first 24 hours
- Keep the area clean & cool: cleanse with lukewarm water or a mild, pH-balanced cleanser.
- Soothe & hydrate: use aloe vera gel or recommended post-treatment products.
- No touching or picking: let the skin heal naturally.
- Avoid heat & friction: skip saunas, steam, swimming, and touching the area. Avoid shaving.
- Stay product aware: no makeup, self-tan, or perfumed products for 24–48 hours. Pause actives for at least 3 days.
Days 2–7
- Drink 1.5–2L of water daily.
- Resume serum + moisturiser (Skin Guru Dew You or AlumierMD Ultimate Boost Serum are fab for hydration).
- Apply SPF 30–50 daily if exposed (i.e. face).
- Tiny scabs may form—do not pick.
What to avoid until fully healed
- Sunbeds/tanning (ideally avoid these completely!)
- Actives and exfoliation (scrubs, acids, retinoids)
What to avoid completely
- Harsh/fragranced products
- Waxing, threading, plucking, or epilating
